LOCATION

The two locations in Thaw are co-dependent and complimentary. The icy farm in a mountainous America gestures towards the abundance of spring but fights to survive when blanketed for the winter. The cabin similarly demands the full effort of practical care. Each detail is imbued with the effort of work, from the log-cabin style build to the personal touches carefully woven and built to provide nutrients, warmth, and total comfort for those laboring. The cabin is lit only with fires, candles, and gas lanterns, imbuing the space with a soft, personal warmth as night falls. The cumulative effect is a primal cinematic world, where the “family” and nature are the only characters at play.
